Acts 16:1-10; Ps 100; John 15:18-21

The “world” John has in mind here is not our planet and all that exists on it, described by God in Genesis as “very, very good.” Jesus is the divine Word from heaven. In this context, the “world” is that mire of attitudes and behaviours alien to God, and even working to oppose God. It is precisely because there are such forces at work that Christians, even today, can expect persecution.
