St Athanasius

Acts 4:23-31;
Ps. 2; John 3:1-8

Today we recall two men, neither of whom was raised a Christian. Nicodemus “came to Jesus by night,” from darkness, searching, moved by the Spirit. He “knows that Jesus comes from God” and wants to reconcile his vast knowledge of the Jewish faith with Jesus’ origins, words and actions. Athanasius, moved by the same Spirit, having never met Jesus, boldly believed. For him, Jesus was truly God and man. Henceforth, Athanasius’ life was fully fashioned and directed by that faith – he was renewed, born again.
