Calling sinners to repentance.

Jesus chose Matthew (Levi), a tax collector, to be an apostle. The first thing that Matthew did was to invite Jesus to a feast with his tax collector friends. Imagine Matthew announcing his honoured guest’s name: “I’d like you all to meet Jesus of Nazareth.” Noticing the change in Matthew, many of his guests became followers of Jesus. Every time we celebrate the banquet of the Mass, Jesus joins us. He comes to break bread with us, to give us his own flesh and blood to drink. We are there to be fed, nourished, built up and honoured by the Lord.
