Sound Training for Island Brothers

From Fr M Bransfield SM, Marist Training Centre, Tutu, Taveuni, Fiji:

With the Brothers and aspirants now in class, things are at last taking shape here. We are aiming at a basic standard of education for our Brother trainees. The Government has recognised us as a junior secondary school. There are fifteen students: three from the Solomons, one from Samoa and eleven from Fiji.
The courses being followed are English, Arithmetic, Field husbandry, Animal husbandry, Biology, Commercial practice, Woodwork and Motor mechanics.
Demonstration Farm Under Way

Fr Jack Ward SM

From Fr J C Ward SM, Lefaga Catholic Presbytery, Apia, Western Samoa:

Our demonstration farm -- to show the local people how they can make the best use of their soil -- began in a modest way. We are not in a great hurry. Time is needed, in fact, to condition these young people to work, to build up their existing plantations and their morale.
