Archbishop KrebsWe welcome His Excellency Archbishop Martin Krebs, Apostolic Nuncio to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, who arrived in Wellington in July. His Excellency’s most recent appointment was as Apostolic Nuncio to Guinea and Mali.

He replaces Archbishop Charles Balvo who has been appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya.

Vernon Douglas 2The Columban Fathers recently presented a marble image of Fr Francis Vernon Douglas to the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Wellington. Father Douglas was a Columban missionary, ordained in 1934 in the Wellington Archdiocese. Missioned to the Philippines, he was captured by the Japanese army of occupation in 1943, tortured for three days, taken away and never seen again.
