In Feb 2007 I wrote an editorial on Climate Change and Faith urging in Lent to reduce our carbon footprint and save the planet. I invited MM reader and eminent meteorologist, the late Augie Auer to repond, which he did in April 2007 with a delightful piece in which he stated his belief that it is impossible to affect climate change with human actions. In April 2012 we published an Opinion by journalist Pat Barrett stating that concern over Climate change is based on fear and false science. One reader cancelled her sub, another called for balance, and other opinions. This we propose to do starting this month with an article by Professor Martin Manning.

Price Rise
The New Scale of charges is set out below a will apply from May 1st .
It will be a burden for some subscribers. The basic sub has gone up by a third, but is still way cheaper than buying an individual copy in church each month. The new cover price is a big jump, but overall the increase is of a scale that we will not need to increase again any time soon.
Cover price $5.00. Within New Zealand: $40 per year (incl GST). Australia and Pacific: $45.00 (includes airmail). Elsewhere overseas $50.00 (includes airmail)

Another Messenger contributor who passed away recently was Papal Knight Dr John Crowley of Palmerston North. He had an eminent career as a doctor, and promoter of Catholic teaching on beginning and end of life issues. He was appointed a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life. Born in Greymouth, his last article for the Messenger was in April 2011 drawing on his extensive knowledge of mines, where he had worked as a 17 year old. The Messenger salutes the memory of this renowned physician and deeply spiritual man. May he rest in peace.
