Sunday 31 July

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Caring Sunday

Ecclesiastes 1:2, 2:21-23; Ps 90; Colossians 3:1-5, 9-11; Luke 12:13-21

What is my treasure?

What do I want to leave behind me when I die? It would be nice to help out the next generation with material things and maybe a few special family mementoes. I’d like to think I passed on more than that, though, for everyone to share: the love of God; a strong faith; a sense of justice, mercy, hope in Christ’s promises; an introduction to the companionship of the Holy Spirit; community service. Above all, love.

Dear Lord, thank you for reminding us where our riches lie. Help me never to be over-attracted to material possessions, but direct my attention to sharing my abundant lifestyle with others whose need is greater.
